Harri Koskinen is an industrial designer, having received several international awards. He has studied at the Institute of Art and Design in Helsinki (now Aalto University). Koskinen designs for many different brands and companies, across many types of article; from furniture to lighting, as well as industrial electronic and commercial packaging. Koskinen founded his company Friends of Industry in 2000. Koskinen is probably best known for his Block Lamp, a lightbulb held inside two shaped pieces of casted glass. Modern water cutting technology creates geometrically cut parts without dark edges, which happens when using a laser cutter. Pilke is a combination of Finnish handcraft technique and ultra-modern computer geometry. The composition of parts enables luminaries that are constructed completely without glue or screws – only wood.
